Recreational & Instructional Swimming

TIGER SHARKS

This City of Columbus Swim League (Parks & Recreation) program is administered by the Columbus Aquatic Club and available at the Double Churches Community Park pool during June and July. Participants must complete enrollment paperwork (available on-site) at their first practice and submit a one-time fee of $95 prior to their second practice.  Two 1-hour practice sessions; early (younger) or late (older) options Monday through Thursday.  One swim meet at our own pool provides an end-of-season culminating event for all participants.  Up to two additional swim meets—administered by GRPA in Tifton, GA—are available for those who achieve qualifying time standards.  All participants receive a t-shirt, swim cap, and goggles. CSL Tiger Shark participants are not regular members of our team, but they are (seasonally) registered with USA-Swimming.  All CSL Tiger Shark participants will have the opportunity to transition to Olympic Strokes or to one of the regular practice groups within the Columbus Hurricanes Swim Team at the conclusion of the summer season.  For more information on this program, contact Coach Hannah.

OLYMPIC STROKES

This instructional training group is designed for swimmers new to the sport or those emerging from a lessons program.  Emphasis is on learning how to be a member of a swim team and on learning all four competitive strokes. Competition is not applicable to this group. Participants do not register as USA-Swimming members, and they are not full members of our team.  Although the majority of participants in this program are ages 8 & under, we often have athletes ages 9-13 who quickly transition through the Olympic Strokes program on their way to full membership and participation in one of our team’s regular practice groups.  The student-to-coach ratio in this group is extremely low, and spaces often fill up months in advance.  To place your name on the waiting list for this training group which is only available September through April, contact Charisse Lucas

Developmental Swimming

This developmental training group is designed for swimmers ages 8 & under.  Emphasis is on having fun and developing the fundamentals of stroke technique.  Competition is available.  Entrance into this group typically occurs as new swimmers progress out of the Olympic Strokes.Participants in this training group are registered with USA-Swimming and are full members of our team.  New members may not sign up to participate in this group without having first contacted the coach.  If you feel that your child does not need lessons and that your child’s skills are beyond the focus of our Olympic Strokes group, contact Coach Mike to schedule a stroke analysis session.

SWIM DOGS

This developmental training group is designed for swimmers ages 9-11.  Emphasis remains on learning and technique, while introducing young swimmers to training concepts.  The focus of available competition is at the local and state level.  Entrance into this group typically occurs as young swimmers progress out of the Aqua Pups.Participants in this training group are registered with USA-Swimming and are full members of our team.  New members may not sign up to participate in this group without having first contacted the coach.  If your family is returning to our team or moving here from another team, and you feel that your child is ready for this group, contact Coach Mike to schedule a stroke analysis session.

Participants in this training group are registered with USA-Swimming and are full members of our team.  New or returning members may not sign up to participate in this group without having first contacted the coach.  If you are returning to our team, or if you are new to us but you have a background in swimming with another team, contact ???? to schedule a placement interview.
