Progressions for Athlete Development

The following templates outline the progressive development of our athletes across the stages of a youth swimming career.  USA-Swimming recognizes 8 of these, and we’ve inserted an unofficial level for teenagers who want to swim recreationally or whose goals are associated with high school swimming.  Take a look at what the practice and performance, biomechanical, physiological, character, life skills and psychological objectives are for each step along the way:

             1. Aqua Pups

             2. Swim Dogs

             3. Junior 2

             4. Junior 1

             x. Senior 2 (High School swimming / secondary sport / recreational focus)

             5. Senior 1 (State / Sectional focus)

             6. Senior 1 (Junior National focus)

             7. Senior 1 (National focus)

             8. World-class Athlete (World Champs / Olympic focus)
