Coaches

At the Columbus Aquatic Club we remain dedicated to developing not just the individual athlete but the total person. We employ a team of recognized and accomplished professionals in the field of coaching to assist in this vital role. In addition to individual experience, each Hurricane coach maintains basic safety certifications through the American Red Cross, a non-athlete (coach) membership in USA Swimming, and a current background investigation. Our coaches believe in and actively participate in certification and continuing education through the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA).

Since 1986, Mike has helped shape the formative development of our youngest athletes. In addition to coaching here at home, Mike has consistently received appointments to the Georgia Zone Team Coaching Staff. After lettering in Swimming right here at Columbus High School, Mike went on to become a member of an All-American relay at the University of Alabama and attain national cuts in the Breaststroke. Mike is a USA Swimming certified coach. His primary responsibilities include directly coaching our youngest developmental groups—the Aqua Pups & the Swim Dogs.

Former Hurricane, Columbus State University student, team record-holder, and Masters Nationals-qualified Hurricane Masters Swim Team member Hannah Grigg has channeled her passion for the sport into a coaching career. With 5 years of developing young Hurricane swimmers under her belt with our Olympic Strokes program, Hannah‘s enthusiasm and expertise are indispensable assets to our team. Hannah is a USA Swimming certified and ASCA certified Level 2 coach. Her primary responsibilities include serving as the lead coach for the CSL Tiger Sharks, supervising dry-land strength & conditioning for the Age Group & Senior programs, and directly coaching Junior 2.

Senior 1 standout, Columbus Hurricanes Swim Team record-holder, and Hardaway High School Swim Team member Kayla Kittrell has maintained an active interest in acquiring coaching credentials for several years now. Kayla also serves as the club’s athlete representative, accompanying coaches to the GA Swimming LSC and House of Delegates meetings. Kayla is a USA Swimming certified and ASCA certified Level 1 coach. Her primary responsibilities this season include serving as an assistant coach for the CSL Tiger Sharks and directly coaching Olympic Strokes.

Senior 1 All-Star, Columbus Hurricanes Swim Team record-holder, All-Bi-City Swimmer of the Year, and Harris County High School Swim Team member Greg Olsen is apprenticing as a USA Swimming certified (first-year) coach.
